What do you do when depression takes your will to live?
It happens.
To a lot more of us that we’d like to admit.
Depression hits when we lose what we loved, feel small, or hopeless, the point of being alive seems very bleak and inexistent.
The idea of just ceasing seems so appealing. Dissolving. Silence.
Will things change? Will I ever feel better? Will this depression end?
Luckily for us, we are traveling through the fabric of TIME and SPACE.
So things will change, time will pass, and you are very likely to feel better again, specially if you take small actions to help the process.
YOU ARE ALREADY DOING THE FIRST ONE.
You are reading this.
You, a hairless primate, made of atoms built inside the nuclear fusion of a star and are using the light emitted by a piece of glass and metal called a mobile phone, to process circles and lines into words, sentences, ideas, and emotions.
In the randomness and chaos of entropy, there’s a world of opportunity for acceptance.
It means the fact that you exist, is already, an impossibility made reality.
So, the first reason: Your existence is a chain of amazing improbabilities occurring
CAN YOU SMELL/SEE/TOUCH THE SECOND ONE?
Can you feel the pressure of your fingertips on your device? The smell of coffee on your desk? The weight of your body on your feet or chair? The temperature of the room? The ambient sounds?
You are actively interacting with everything around you.
Everything you sense is the result of an interaction between matter and energy.
Your senses connect you with the universe.
The same universe that created you, and you make part of.
The second one ; remember you are universe made aware of itself
TAKE A DEEP BREATH
As you inhale, every molecule you inhale has been around this planet for a while.
Part of the rocks, ocean, clouds, rain.
Part someone’s else’s body.
And here you are, part of this cycle.
Borrowing those molecules for a while.
Before your awareness fades away, and your matter merges back with this infinite process.
The third reason ; You are part of something much bigger than yourself
IDENTIFY YOUR PURPOSE
Like other mammals and insects, we exist within a society.
A mass of members of a species, working together to assure the survival of the group.
Some provide food, some heal, some teach, some protect.
But everyone has a purpose in the group.
Their capacities and abilities aligned with that purpose.
The forth reason; you shine in a unique way, and we need that light
JUST BE
When the Big Bang occurred, matter and energy was not distributed uniformly.
This is what allowed it to clump into galaxies, stars, and planets.
Energy and matter evolving form and shape, from gas, to dust, to rocks, to living things.
Every living being as an inevitable result of this process of evolution of matter and energy.
And here you came to be, as a direct result of the Big Bang.
The fifth and last one: You were destined to exist, you are the reason to be
I hope you find some comfort in the reasons I share with you and they help shift your perception of your existence.
Hang on, you are not alone feeling the way you do, and regaining the excitement for life is possible.
Enjoy the ride, even the bad parts of the journey become the rear view mirror picture at some point.
